This wonderful self-drive tour is a unique combination that brings you to the highlights of southern Chile and Argentina. You will start in Puerto Montt, go over to the border of Argentina to the beautiful little village Bariloche, drive down Ruta 40, the longest highway of Argentina until you reach the most famous National Park of Patagonia "Torres del Paine". Take your time while discovering the beauty of the landscape which varies between green forests, lakes, wild rivers, waterfalls, mountains and a dry steppe, glaciers, Volcanoes and more. It is an unforgettable adventure, for which you do not need to be an adventurer.

Day 1 Puerto Montt - Petrohué (90 km / 56 mi)

Pick up your car at the airport or the city office and then enjoy an attractive and short drive to the Lake Llanquihue, one of the largest lakes in South America.

Delight in the beautiful views of the volcanoes Osorno and Calbuco during the drive along the shoreline. Petrohué is beautifully located on the shores of Lake Todos Los Santos in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Overnight in Petrohué. (Dinner)

Day 2 Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park

You will have an entire day to explore the park with its attractive hiking trails and large variety of outdoor activities like rafting, kayaking, trekking or fishing. (Breakfast/Dinner)

Day 3 Petrohué - Bariloche (410 km / 255 mi)

Enjoy your breakfast and then depart to discover the Argentinean Lake District on the eastern side of the Andes. Passing through the marvelous Puyehue National Park, you will reach the border with Argentina and continue onwards to the city of Bariloche, located on Lake Nahuel Huapi and in a national park of the same name. Overnight in or close to Bariloche. (Breakfast)

Day 4 Bariloche - Esquel (183 km / 114 mi)

Continuing your journey to the south, you will pass through the town of El Bolson before reaching
the junction with the Ruta 40, where you turn towards Esquel. The founding of the town dates back to the arrival of Welsh immigrants in Chubut in 1865.Overnight in or near Esquel. (Breakfast)

Day 5 Esquel - Futaleufú (191 km / 119 mi)

From Esquel you will drive further south, passing through the Los Alerces National Park. Take your time for a short exploration of one of the most beautiful national parks of Argentina. You will cross the border into Chile at Los Cipreses to reach Futaleufú in the afternoon. Overnight in Futaleufú.(Breakfast)

Day 6 Futaleufú

Today you will have a day to discover Futaleufú and its surroundings or to participate in optional activities like white-water rafting on the Futaleufú River, considered the best river for rafting in Chile. Overnight in Futaleufú. (Breakfast)

Day 7 Futaleufú - El Pangue (180 km/ 112 mi)

From Futaleufú you will pass the crystal clear Lake Yelcho and descend to the Pacific Ocean. South of La Junta you will enter the Queulat National Park with its dense forests. Spend the night on the border of the park in the cabins of El Pangue. (Breakfast)

Day 8 El Pangue and Surroundings

Visit the village of Puyuhuapi with its carpet factory and spend time hiking the Queulat National Park to see the Hanging Glacier. Overnight in El Pangue. (Breakfast)

Day 9 El Pangue - Coyhaique (240 km / 149 mi)

For the first miles of today’s trip, the road continues on through the Queulat National Park and then ascends the Cuesta Queulat which offers spectacular views of the forests and the valley. Shortly before arriving at the capital of the Aysén region, Coyhaique, you will pass through the Simpson National Reserve. Overnight in Coyhaique. (Breakfast)

Day 10 Coyhaique - Lake General Carrera (265 km / 124 mi)

A beautiful but long drive calls for an early departure. Your trip today will lead you to the immense Lake General Carrera. Stop for magnificent views from the various lookout points along the lengthy and uninhabited stretch of the Carretera Austral. Don’t miss a visit to the Marble Caves close to Puerto Tranquilo; for that ask for a boat ride at the gas station. You will spend the night right on Lake General Carrera. (Breakfast)

Day 11 Lake General Carrera

Take delight in the beautiful landscapes and explore the surroundings of the lake. Overnight on Lake General Carrera. (Breakfast)

Day 12 Lake General Carrera - Estancia in Argentina (290 km / 180 mi)

After breakfast, you will start to drive east towards the border town Chile Chico. The views of the lake are beautiful but the road has many curves, so drive carefully. Once you have entered Argentina, the landscape changes into the typical pampas that cover almost all of Argentina's Patagonia. Visit the small town Perito Moreno. From there it will be a short drive south to the Estancia Telken, run by a family of British and Dutch descent. (Breakfast)

Day 13 Estancia Telken - El Chaltén (535 km / 335 mi)

Today, you will set out for an especially long trip to El Chaltén, almost all the way on the Route Today, you will set out for an especially long trip to El Chaltén, almost all the way on the Route 40, the "Patagonian Highway". Chaltén is situated at the foot of the Fitz Roy Mountain Range. overnight at a hostería. (Breakfast)

Day 14 Los Glaciares National Park - Fitz Roy

Participate today in one of the hikes that start from El Chaltén to visit the wonderful national park
and the Southern Ice Field. You can also join a boat trip to the Viedma Glacier in the morning. Overnight at a hostería. (Breakfast)

Day 15 El Chaltén - El Calafate (250 km / 155 mi)

You will drive around Lake Viedma today, to reach another huge glacier lake alled Lago Argentino. Argentino. You will spend the night on the shores of the ake in the village El Calafate. Overnight in El Calafate. (Breakfast)

Day 16 Los Glaciares National Park - Perito Moreno

Visit the magnificent glacier Perito Moreno, a true natural spectacle; a trek on the ice can be organized. Overnight in El Calafate. (Breakfast)

Day 17 El Calafate - Torres del Paine National Park (348 km / 216 mi)

You will drive into Chile via Cerro Castillo through the vast steppe or Pampa and arrive in one of the most beautiful national parks of the American continent - Torres del Paine. Enjoy the view of the Torres on your way to your hostería. Overnight in or close to the Torres del Paine National Park. (Breakfast)

Day 18 Torres del Paine National Park

You will start early to make the most of this day. Visit some of the various sites within the park, navigate to the Grey Glacier in a boat or trek on one of the shorter trails to experience this magnificent landscape close-up. Overnight in or close to National Park Torres del Paine. (Breakfast)

Day 19 Torres del Paine - Punta Arenas (410 km / 255 mi)

On this approx. 4 to 6 hour drive to Punta Arenas, you can visit the Milodón Cave where scientists discovered the remains of a gigantic sloth. To experience Patagonian wildlife, visit the Penguin Colony at the Otway Sound before arriving in Punta Arenas. Overnight in Punta Arenas. (Breakfast)

Day 20 Punta Arenas - Drop off

Your long Patagonian Adventure ends in Punta Arenas, where you will return your car at the airport or the downtown rental office. (Breakfast)
