Live the fantastic experience of one of the most famous and legendary roads in South America. Discover the south of the Carretera Austral in Chile and enjoy the breathtaking landscape that you will see by driving your rental car down this road.
Day 1 Balmaceda Airport - Pto Rio Tranquilo (195 km / 120 mi)
Pick up your car at Balmaceda airport. Dry Pampa will gradually give way to green forests when crossing the pass at the National Reserve of Cerro Castillo. After descending, you drive along the beautiful river Ibáñez and cross a forest covered by thick layers of ashes from the volcano Hudson which last violent eruption occurred in 1991. In the afternoon you will arrive at your hosteria in Pto Rio Tranquilo.
Day 2 Puerto Rio Tranquilo - Puerto Guadal (65 km / 40 mi)
Before driving on to Puerto Gaudal, you will have time to discover the natural surroundings of Puerto Rio Tranquilo. A drive up the unexplored "Valle Exploradores", and an even more exiting visit to the Marble Cathedral that lies off shore from Rio Tranquilo (by boat from Puerto Rio Tranquilo or from Puerto Bahía EL Marmol) are well worth your time. In the afternoon drive around the lake. Overnight at cabins close to Puerto Gaudal. (Breakfast)
Day 3 Lake General Carrera
You will have time to discover the surroundings of Lake General Carrera. Overnight close to Puerto Guadal. (Breakfast)
Day 4 Puerto Guadal - Caleta Tortel (340 km / 212 mi)
The drive from Pto Gaudal to Cochrane is relatively short. On the way we will stop at the crystal clear Rio Baker and visit the beautiful National Reserve Tamango. From there we carry on to the more southern Caleta Tortel. This town has only wooden walkways, therefore cars have to be parked outside the town. Overnight in Caleta Tortel. (Breakfast)
Day 5 Caleta Tortel
An early departure is advisable, to explore the southern most parts of the incredible Southern Highway. You could visit Villa O'Higgins or ask for some excursions in the area to get a deeper sense of this amazing place. The village of Tortel was only recently connected to the "mainland" by road; this unique village is completely built on wooden pillars rising from the water of the Pacific Ocean. The natural surroundings accompanying this drive are astonishing. Overnight in Caleta Tortel. (Breakfast)
Day 6 Tortel - Coyhaique (420 km / 250 mi)
The drive to the capital of the region, Coyhaique, takes you along the Carretera Austral, passing the magnificent Lake General Carrera once more. Various lookout points along the way show you the fantastic landscape. In Cerro Castillo you should not miss out on a visit to the caves with prehistoric paintings. Overnight in Coyhaique. Day 7 Coyhaique – Balmaceda (40 km / 25 mi)
Drive back to the airport of Balmaceda to drop off the car and board your connecting flight. (Breakfast)

Tour includes: 6 nights incl. breakfast, 7 days' car rental incl. unlimited free mileage, local tax, full CDW coverage with a deductible of UF 20 plus tax (appr. USD 1000) for any damage that may occur during the rental period, roadmap and description.
Not included: In Chile car rental companies charge an additional airport service fee at the time of vehicle pickup at the airport. This service charge is not included in the rates above, it has to be paid upon returning the car.
